This article about the "Fermi Paradox" is a long one that I bookmarked to read later after signing out on the BBS

I got a 404 page when I clicked the link in Your post. but on that 404 page was a Search option that I entered PMC11307330 and that got me to the page the article was on.

Howdy August, It probably was those < > marks.
Another character I noticed messing up a link is a Period after the link.
I try to make a space then the dot after the link .

Computering is sometimes problematic, isn't it?

    TKS for the reply August.

Back when I logged on to this BBS with "A" Computer I entered my thoughts in between portions of the text someone wrote.

Until recently I have been putting my Reply below the post.
The other day I thought to try writing above the post I was replying to.

My thinking to do this was because reading some Amateur Radio posts that the writer put the newer message below the last one sent and I would have to scroll through all of the older posts on that Topic just to read the newer information.

I noticed this done on two Ham forums from different Networks.

Since this phone doesn't have CTRL snd End keys scrolling thru those kind of text takes a lot of effort - (for a lazy guy).

P.S. still playing with the BT on cellphone to Wired Router idea.
The Store I shopped at for computer things closed in my area and their nearest store is far away from my area.
The next town has another PC store , it may be closer than the business I've been using but I still have to drive a bit to shop there.

I miss the one that was close by.

I think Ed is using a phone for his echomail. Must be harder to
fiddle with Ctrl-Y (to delete lines), or highlight a block to
delete, than it is with a proper/physical keyboard.

If I recognize that someone has top-posted, I just look over
the bottom/quoted part for the essentials and skip the rest
like the extra taglines and origin lines. Easy to do.

    Yes, indeed it is tedious...

But, at least in Aftershock, I find it easier to move to the bottom of the message and type my reply there, than top-posting.

I hope that some day its developer can improve quoting removal. Maybe something like in HotdogEd...

Howdy! Winfred, my using a cellphone isn't lazy.
    It'S very difficult.
After my Internet connection to my home computer system failed two years ago I missed logging on a BBS and reading email.
Fiber failed to work and except for Cable Internet Fiber is the only service offered now that DSL service no longer is available.

The cellphone gives me access now but isn't anything near what my home computer system could do.

    Hi Wilfred
I apologize for misspelling Your Name.
Seriously, My reason for using a Bulletin Board is to learn from others who write about their successes, failures and wants.
If I don't see a grin at the end of a statement I accept what's written as facts.

After getting a Novice Amateur Radio Operators License I became a member of an older Club instead of the Club the younger Hams that I knew belonged to.

I figured that I would learn more by associating with the older Hams than I could from the Club my friends were members of.
Years later I was a member of both clubs. and learned many Hams there were also in both Radio Clubs.

I am sorta like Sargent Joe Friday - Just The Facts, Mam (Sir).

Sorry again for Ed's Head (C) TM not remembering the correct spelling of Your Name.
I have got and written posts to You years back when the home computer system had SLMR and MultiMail Readers on them where I saw the message header at the top of the screen "I think" even when I scrolled far down in a message I was replying to in a QWK packet.
Haven't got the BIG BOX PC turned on to see if the thoughts I just wrote were correct.
Lots of people I talk to just shake their heads as they walk away from Me especially after I say:
    " Z Y X W V U T S R Q P O N M L K J I H G F E D C B A" to them very rapidly, on a good day I can say that in 3.5 seconds.
In the 60 years of saying the Alphabet backwards three times young girls (8th Graders) have finished before I got to A.
There is always Something or Someone to keep Me humble. That's a Fact.

I see another Reply from You in this forum, hope I spell Wi?fred correct in that post .

Hi, Wilfred, I got this cellphone in January this year (2024) and it ain't been easy learning the Ins and Outs of the Android OS.

I have read that Android OS is a Linux type OS.
I have downloaded Ubuntu versions from 7.04 to I think 12LTS and used (Not Installed) U'u on CD's to play (and learn) with it.
It has been a long time since I used any of those CD's but I did get comfortable with the Terminal program
(sorry to pat myself on my back, even though I Know my wrist, elbow and shoulder hurts afterwards).

house without power. realitycheckBBS was running in Windows 10 on a
laptop, so I brought the whole thing with me to a Starbucks, logged into
their wifi, crashed my uplinks, then crashed all of my downlinks.

It doesn't get more mobile than taking the whole BBS with you. :)

Well.. there *is* a certain cool factor accessing echomail in a
    portable and literally mobile way.

During last winter's storms, I went through an extended period at my
house without power. realitycheckBBS was running in Windows 10 on a laptop, so I brought the whole thing with me to a Starbucks, logged into their wifi, crashed my uplinks, then crashed all of my downlinks.

How far did you have to drive to do that?

It doesn't get more mobile than taking the whole BBS with you. :)

    Indeed!

Someone posted about a BBS project operating entirely on a phone. Not sure how practical that is.

Memory fades - actually once I went to a local starbucks a couple of
miles away, the other time I went into my office 20 miles away. Took
the opportunity to copy all of my media to OneDrive as well, since it
was during the lockdown and I had 2 600/600 internet circuits sitting
    idle.

If there was a cloudflare daemon for Android, maybe - don't think phone
IPs are accessible from the outside.

I am unsuccessful in trying to find the posts about the
project. But I think the idea was to run the phone as the
server. And as long as the phone is always powered (such as
always charging) then it always accessible to visitors.

Perfectly doable if the phone is charging at the same time.

    P.P.S.
It is easier for me to tap the virtual keyboard while clogged in by holding the phone horizontally. But I can't see the whole message.
Vertically shows less text and I hafta scroll to read all that's written. Keyboard is real tiny in the vertical position.

It looks like it was MeaTLoTioN who was describing it in FSX_GEN (MSGID: 21:1/158 dd37718d) back in November of 2020.

He got Mystic running on a OnePlus 6T, calling it "phOnE In mY pOckEt BBS" or "PIMP BBS" for short.
